Where Did We Get This Idea?
In English, Mrs. Buhrley gave us each $10 to make a change in our communities. Paige and I decided to work together to complete the project. Paige’s mom knew a friend, who worked for a title-one school that couldn’t afford many books. Thus, we knew we would use this opportunity to make a change in the community. We chose that a book drive would be most useful and fun for both us and the participating schools.
What Did We Do?
we started by emailing principals of three different schools (Timberline, Alpine Elementary, and Westfield Elementrey) and were happy to find that they were willing to participate.
Next, we gathered as many donations from various sources as we possibly could, including calling over 30 businesses. We happily relieved many donations, including a Google Home, Kneader's treats, Gift cards, and even free meals. Using this, we could motivate others to donate.
To gather the books, we got a lot of large, brown bags and boxes to put in Timberline's Library and for the teachers of the elementary schools. They were also attached with flyers to spread the word. Already, we have had many books donated, which we are very grateful for.
This Friday will be the last day to donate books to receive prizes (Timberline Middle School) or a Class Party (Elementary Schools). For Timberline Middle School, there will be a raffle, so the more books you donate, the more likely you are to win more prizes. As for the Elementary schools, we will count which class had the most books donated and give a class party with chocolate Milk and Donuts!
